José (Pepe) Bernabeu was a pioneer of Theoretical Particle Physics in Spain, achieving international renown, particularly in the phenomenological study of discrete T, P, C, CP, and CPT symmetries. He has also made a significant scientific contribution to the physics of flavor, neutrinos, and other fields. He has also contributed significantly to transfer of knowledge, particularly in medical physics.
He has been closely associated with CERN, as well as with a wide variety of international universities and research institutes, where he has taught and conducted research.
His open nature, his vast knowledge, rigor, ethics, and passion for physics, combined with his closeness to students, doctoral students, and young scientists in particular, earned him admiration and affection. Several generations of scientists have benefited from this.
Pepe Bernabeu has held important management positions, such as the management of the National High Energy Program in Spain. Due to his scientific merits, he has received several awards and distinctions, such as the King Jaume I Prize for Basic Research and the Physics Medal from the Royal Spanish Society of Physics - BBVA Foundation.
He was a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Spain, an Academician of the Argentine Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences, and an Honorary Academician of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Valencian Community.
Pepe will be fondly remembered by the international particle physics community.
