Abstract:
The main goal of the present PhD program is the execution and analysis of experiment IS698 at the ISOLDE/CERN facility. By getting involved in all characteristic phases of the experiment, the PhD candidate will receive a complete eduation in experimental nuclear science at one of the world-reference facilities in the production and study of radioactive nuclei like the one located at CERN. By executing the various tasks depicted in the workplan, the PhD candidate will: - advance in the knowledge of nuclear instrumentation, by directly participating in the preparation and setup of the hardware and software components of the experiment. - develop data analysis skills, by analyzing the data obtained during the measurements at the ISOLDE/CERN facility. - improve programming skills related to particle transport simulation (use of GEANT4 framework), nuclear reaction modeling, and study the impact of the deduced nuclear properties in astrophysical reaction network calculations. - Present the result of the measurements in international conferences and publish them in peer-reviewed international journals. - Participate in an international collaboration, interacting with scientist from different laboratories and countries in Europe.
