  • Abstract:

The aim of this thesis will be to study extensions of the Standard Model of particle Physics which predict new Higgs-Boson-like states to be found (or excluded) at the next runs of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The project will involve model building/analysis of various scalar potentials, which can provide solutions to outstanding problems such as the origin of dark matter, the mechanism behind the observed matter/anti-matter asymmetry of the Universe or the stability of the Standard Model at high energies. The applicant will contribute to the implementation and development of new model classes in the ScannerS tool (https://scanners.hepforge.org/). This tool was designed to perform efficient parameter space scans of scalar extensions interfaced with the best phenomenological bounds and measurements from High energy experiments such as: collider data from the LHC, Tevatron and LEP; dark matter direct detection experiments; and cosmic microwave background measurements from the Planck Satellite. The theoretical topics to be developed will also involve the study of radiative corrections to multi-singlet models at the electroweak scale; at very high energies; and in cosmological contexts through the effective potential.
